First Edition/First Printing. First Edition/First Printing. Fine/Wraps (as issued). Here it is - a beautiful copy of the Granta Magazine that sparked great debate with its Summer 1996 Issue. At Granta's request, eighteen established American novelists of an older generation deliberated their choice among the new. The final judging panel-including Robert Stone, Anne Tyler and Tobias Wolff-identified twenty writers of particular achievement and promise. When this issue came out - many of these names were unfamiliar to many readers - that is certainly no longer the case. This group of writers has gone on to produce some of today's best work - including many, many awards. This is destined to become a most important item in any collection of modern literature. This copy has been SIGNED by ALL TWENTY of the authors at their contributions?Sherman Alexie, Madison Smartt Bell, Ethan Canin, Edwidge Danticat, Tom Drury, Tony Earley, Jeffrey Eugenides, Jonathan Franzen, David Guterson, David Haynes, Allen Kurzweil, Elizabeth McCracken, Lorrie Moore, Fae Myenne Ng, Robert O'Connor, Chris Offutt, Stewart O'Nan, Mona Simpson, Melanie Rae Thon and Kate Wheeler. Añadir al carritoFirst edition of this diary of an eminent American soldier and general; from the library of Philemon Tecumseh Sherman. Octavo, original green cloth, tissue-guarded frontispiece of Major General Ethan Allen Hitchcock. P. T. Sherman's bookplate to the front pastedown. In very good condition with light bumping to the crown of the spine, some rubbing to the front and rear panel, and an ownership signature to the front pastedown. General William Tecumseh Shermanâs son P. T. Sherman was a lawyer in New York, specializing in labor and insurance, and was elected a member of the New York Board of Alderman in the late 1880s. In the early 1900s, he was appointed the New York Commissioner of Labor. He transferred his library to his niece, Eleanor Sherman Fitch, the granddaughter of General Sherman through his eldest daughter, Maria âMinnieâ Ewing Sherman Fitch, before he died. Until now, this book was held at the family estate in Washington County, Pennsylvania. Rare. Ethan Allen Hitchcock was a career United States Army officer and author who had War Department assignments in Washington, D.C., during the American Civil War where he served as Major-General. Hitchcock was a diarist, and his journal entries from this time have served as a crucial source of evidence for Howard Zinn's reinterpretation of United States history, 'Voices of A People's History of the United States.'.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: new. Paperback. A number of years ago I self-treated my bad back, and in the process actually discovered a method of straightening it, as well as my limbs by utilizing my discovery of the connection between the spinal column and the senses. While I am not a healer but merely a retired home improvement contractor I believe I might have stumbled upon the cure for scoliosis and even muscular dystrophy. Just because the latter disease is hereditary does not mean that genes must be involved in the cure. However nobody should do anything health related on my say so. I have no medical credentials. Never the less I have lived my life differently during these past thiry years than anyone else on the planet. In fact it has probably been different than anybody who has ever set foot on the planet, (although I cannot say this with absolute certainty) and I feel compelled to tell my story. This booklet contains much other information as well; such as the spinal column has a tuning fork quality, and many products emit a sound that utilizes this; breaking down the spine and leading to a vast amount of premature pain and illness. Much existing research verifies this. Stand, take a deep breath, and relax. Place your elbows near your sides, extend your arms, and let your fingers hang limply. Notice you are still. Next turn on the TV and repeat the experiment. Now you should feel a force pushing you one way or the other. I believe that this force is harmful. Much research says that watching a lot of television leads to a number of illnesses. A sedentary lifestyle is given as the reason. I believe that constant exposure to this force is causing things to go askew. About sixteen years ago stereo analog TV came on the scene. Its sound also exerted a force. It was around that time that instances of autism and Alzheimer's disease spiked. I believe that is the reason. We hear much talk about people becoming obese and developing diabetes. I think it is more likely that these harmful sounds (television is only the tip of the iceberg) are causing people to develop diabetes, and it is the diabetes that is causing the obesity-not the other way around. Over the years we changed our work and exercise patterns so that we seldom reverse course, do activity one handed instead of using both hands, handle artifical material, and perform activity evenly. All of these things harm the spine. In this book I tell why this is so and show how harmful activity can be reversed. I believe that the spinal column cannot be perfect, but the effects of incorrect activity can be reversed to the extent that the back could possibly become pain free. This book also describes several theories that are not in the same class as above: If the body moves in the presence of certain colors or sounds as I describe, this might be the ultimate example of an inexhaustible supply of non-polluting energy waiting to be harnessed for the good of Humanity. I also reasoned that if the senses affect our health perhaps the sounds we make in our speech also have a bearing on health. I show that if the book of Genesis is read in Hebrew in a certain way it actually tells how biblical people lived so many hundreds of years. These people lived extremely long lives until the story of Babel. Immediately after that there is a geneology where the lifespan goes from several hundred years to one hundred and twenty, which is paltry by those standards. Now if Genesis is read in a certain way no word can be phonetically accented before that tale. After Babel accents crept into the language and the lifespan dropped leading me to conclude that a perfect language-one that is accentless-is the key to extreme longevity. This book contains several other theories to which I cannot do justice in the brief space alloted to me here. This item is printed on demand.
