The first edition of Edward Shearburn Marshall's (1858-1919) later supplement, providing additions and corrections, to Anglican clergyman and botanist Richard Paget Murray's (1842-1908) monumental catalogue of the flora of the county of Somerset (1896). An excellent first edition copy of Edward Shearburn Marshall's 'A Supplement to the Flora of Somerset', that provides additions and corrections to Richard Paget Murray's earlier work, 'The Flora of Somerset' (1896). Richard Paget Murray was an English clergyman and botanist whose earlier work on 'The Flora in Somerset' documented his keen eye and abundant knowledge of plants native to the region. He was widely known for his impressive herbarium that contained plants from all over the world, including Portugal, France and even the Canary Islands. These specimens were greatly sought after his death, and much of his collection is now held by the Natural History Museum in London. Edward Shearburn Marshall, a close friend of Murray, was a well respected botanist in his own right making him the ideal candidate to produce revisions and additions to Murray's original text, after his death in 1908.
