Nellie Perkins McCormic became the secretary and records keeper for the St. Helens Lumber Company, a expanding firm built by Hamlin and Charles McCormick in St. Helens, Oregon, which in the early 20th century was processing over 400,000 feet of lumber every 16 hours. This influential family also built many of the buildings in downtown St. Helens, along with the historic family home on 2nd Street above the town.
