Añadir al carritoCloth. Condición: Very Good. Thomas Lowinsky Ilustrador. First edition. A pleasing first edition of this illustrated recipe book from English society hostess and food writer Ruth Lowinsky. First edition. Illustrated throughout. Following the success of her debut cookbook Lovely Food (1931), Lowinsky quickly compiled a selection of additional dishes. This work is a charming recipe book with dishes for all occasions from asparagus rolls and mushroom flan, to boeuf a la mode and caramel ices. Written by Ruth J. Emilie Lowinsky, an English society hostess and food writer. Lowinsky was good friends of British writers friend of Rebecca West and Raymond Mortimer. Illustrated by her husband, Thomas Esmond Lowinsky, an English painter noted primarily for his portraiture, but he also painted fantasy scenes. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with minor bumping to the extremities and light discolouration to the cloth. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Previous owner's bookplate to the front endpaper. Very Good. book.

Añadir al carritoCloth. Condición: Very Good Indeed. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fair. Thomas Lowinsky Ilustrador. First edition. The first edition of Ruth Lowinsky's cookery notebook, with the "Hostess Notebook" still to be filled in, with the original, very scarce dust wrapper. The first edition. Published the same year as a limited edition. Bound in the publisher's cloth, with the original, unclipped, scarce dust wrapper. A delightful cookery notebook written by English society hostess and food writer, Ruth Lowinsky.'Lovely Food' was Lowinsky's debut work, in which she presents a number of bourgeoise recipes for various occasions, including high tea, picnics and a shooting lunch. Charmingly illustrated by the author's husband, the surrealist Thomas Esmond Lowinsky. FFrom the library of Jill Norman, an editor and food writer. Norman began working at Penguin in the early 1960s and, as the only woman, the care of the company's cookery books fell to her. It was her responsibility to expand the cookery titles Penguin produced, and thus began to publish works by Jane Grigson, Claudia Roden, and Alan Davidson. In particular Norman worked closely with the famed cookery writer Elizabeth David, with whom she was good friends. Bound in the publisher's cloth, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, very smart, with light bumping to the extremities and a few marks to the cloth. Bookplate to front endpaper. Dust wrapper is worn, with considerable loss to the front panel, and further chipping to the extremities and spine. Sunning to the spine and extremities of the wrap, with the odd mark. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed. book.

Publisher's mid-brown boards with gilt lettering to the spine. Boards exceptionally bright and clean. No inscriptions. The merest hint of wear at the base of the spine otherwise a fine copy. The rare dustwrapper is in fair condition with significant chipping to the spine (in particular) and to the edges of both the front and back panels. The presence of the dustwrapper has, however, protected the boards remarkably well.
