Hommage aux combattants de la journée insurrectionnelle du 10 août 1792, à laquelle l'auteur participa. Il en récapitule les principaux événements et désigne Louis XVI comme le principal instigateur de la répression. Il appelle à un châtiment exemplaire du roi, de ses fidèles et à l'éradication de toute trace "d'une dynastie souillée de tant de crimes". Militaire et auteur dramatique, Charles-Philippe Ronsin (1751-1794) réintégra l'armée au moment de la Révolution et y fit une carrière fulgurante, devenant en septembre 1793 général en chef de l'armée révolutionnaire de Paris. Il joua un rôle important en Vendée où il battit La Rochejaquelein. Arrêté le 25 novembre 1793 puis relâché, il fut finalement guillotiné avec les hébertistes le 24 mars 1794.
