For that he was executed and, thus, became the first person on the island to die for his Christian faith - that resulting from edicts decreed by the Emperor Diocletian. The cathedral was originally an abbey (approx. 793 - 1539) said to have been founded by King Offa of Mercia. St. Alban's Cathedral is a magnificent structure, containing significant architecture, and numerous historic artistic vestiges from medieval times. This lovely book is graced with color and black-and-white photographs, as well as a ground plan of it architecture )to be seen on the verso of the front cover. The book, written by Rev. D. R. Feaver, was issued in 1976 by Pitkin Pictorials Ltd, as part of the "Pitkin Pride of Britain Series" Feaver was the Right Reverend Douglas Russell Feaver (1914 - 1977) .
