Promise won a Primetime Emmy and Mr. Garner was nominated for a Best Actor / Drama Primetime Emmy for his role. The handsome and amiable James Garner (1928 - 2014) was best known for his work in such acclaimed films and television series as The Rockford Files (1974 - 1980), Maverick (1957 - 1962), The Great Escape (1963), Space Cowboys (2000), and The Notebook (2004). Nominated for many awards over the years, in 1986 he was nominated for Best Actor Oscar for MurphyÕs Romance.
