With a tipped-in extract from Camden's 1771 edition - County of Merioneth, Caernarvon, Denbigh & Flint with 1 page verso of Cheshire [401-414] pp, with an additional folding map by Cary 1805, and a portrait of Edward I, text & plate leaves watermarked 1805, 1806, grangerised leaves 1809 with 1 at 1822. See his entries in the Oxford DNB (where his edition of Pepys is described as 'an amateurish travesty' of the transcript) and the History of Parliament. 2pp, 12mo. In good condition, lightly aged and folded twice. Good neat signature: 'Braybrooke'. The recipient is not named, but the name of the editor of the work mentioned by Braybrooke is given as 'C. .S.' He thanks him for 'the curious Memoir of Ambrose Barnes which has just been transmitted to me through Sir Francis Freeling', and assures him that 'it shall be carefully preserved amongst the other valuable Tracts with which you have been so good as to enrich my Collection'. He hopes that when he revisits Cambridge he will 'see Audley End in a less unfavourable state than it must have appeared last September'. The letter ends: 'I trust you have not given up exploring Parochial Registers for the benefit of antiquarians'.

A sound copy of the scarce First Edition in original publishers cloth a.e.g. 8vo.vi.351 pps. 6¾"x5" New eps with original prize label replaced.Dampstaining to rear board which has bled into the final leaves but still an acceptable copy of a scarce title by the author of "The Boy in the Bush" Peter 'Possum's Portfolio etc. Further scans on request.

See their entries in the Oxford DNB. On 5.5 x 15.5 cm strip extracted from a document, and laid down on 8 x 21.5 cm part of gilt-edged leaf from an album. In good condition, lightly aged on aged and creased mount. The signatures are written above one another: 'Mornington / Bayham / J. Th. Townshend'. The only other writing, at the foot of the strip is ' / July 1793'. "Camden served as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland in the revolutionary years 1795 to 1798 and as Secretary of State for War and the Colonies between 1804 and 1805.".

Later Edition. Contemporary blind-boardered boards with the spines uniformly tooled in gilt. Some wear and tear as with age. Remains well preserved overall; bright and clean.
