Añadir al carritoFull contemporary leather. Condición: Very Good. Second stereotype edition. Biography of James Brainerd Taylor (1801-1829), a popular participant during America's Second Great Awakening. The Princeton graduate and Yale Seminary student grew to be a frequent example of evangelical Protestant spirituality and evangelistic passion long after his untimely death. Those interested in religious revivals, evangelism and missions, spirituality, early nineteenth-century American history, the integration of faith and action with university or seminary studies, or inspirational Christian biography will benefit from this scarce book on a forgotten hero of the Protestant faith. Condition: VG. Complete. BOOK INFO Published in 1833 by The American Tract Society in New York. Second stereotype edition. Bound in contemporary full mottled leather; spine with a few gilt rules and a gilt-lettered leather spine label. Duodecimo, 6" x 4". Collated and complete: 441 pp; frontispiece. Included are three pieces of ephemera that were slipped inside: 1.) 19th century newspaper clipping of a poem from the Belfast Commercial Chronicle (1805-1855) 2.) Scrap of paper with dates and math equations in pencil. 3.) Antique slip of paper with a student's class schedule from the 19th century. On the back are doodles in pencil. ABOUT THE PUBLISHER The American Tract Society (ATS) is a nonprofit, nonsectarian but evangelical organization founded on May 11, 1825, in New York City for the purpose of publishing and disseminating tracts of Christian literature. ATS traces its lineage back through the New York Tract Society (1812) and the New England Tract Society (1814) to the Religious Tract Society of London, begun in 1799. Over the years, ATS has produced and distributed many millions of pieces of literature. Before ATS was founded, the Bible was the only religious book being distributed widely around the United States. The American Tract Society's founders felt that the American Bible Society was limited in its activities, leading to ATS's establishment. The ATS is still in operation and going strong. Through its international division (International Tract Society) ATS has approximately 136 print partners in 70 countries who print and distribute tracts in over 100 languages. CONDITION REPORT The book is in Very Good collectible condition. Exterior and binding: VG+ In quite nice condition for a nearly 200-year-old binding. Board leather is colorful and fresh.
