Undated Edition, circa 1880s. 11 lovely Full-Page Colour Plates illustrating Biblical characters and events, 2 Full-Page Plates illustrating Flowers, 12 Part Colour Scenes from the Holy Land, including Bethlehem & Nazareth and a Colour Plate of a Map of St. Paul's journeys, protected by tissue guards. Frontis illus. is a Colour Plate of the finding of Moses, protected by tissue guard. Opposite is a Red, Black & Gilt Title Page "The Illustrated National Family Bible" followed by a. Printed Title Page. Text arranged in Double Columns with References in inner margins and copious Footnotes. XV/15 preliminary pages including Dr. Eadies Preface, followed by Family Register Pages. Old Testament 915 Pages. The New Testament has its own Title Page, opposite a Multilingual Page in Red Print, and continues the Pagination to 1203. The Last Section, of 59 pages, individually paginated is a Chronological Index, Biblical Cyclopaedia, Psalms, Paraphrases & Hymns. Handsome Period Black Full-Leather Binding with Ornate Brass Corners and Two ornate Brass Catches Blind tooled decoration and a deeply inset central Cross for the Title on front, similar on back. 4 Raised Bands to spine, Dull Gilt Title in 2nd Compartment and blind-tooled Decoration filling the others. All Page Edges Gilt. 13" Tall. This Bible was formerly the property of the Nankivell family of St. Agnes, Cornwall. Family Entries range from 1892 - 1938, including Henry Nankivell, killed in action in World War I. Some edge wear around spine. 2 small bits missing from fore margin of frontis and a closed tear in bottom margin. the brass catches are in working order but can't quite close. Heavy Bible, weighs over 5 Kilos so Shipping outside UK will be extra.
