En la primera edición de esta obra, a la que corresponde el ejemplar que ofrecemos, parte de los ejemplares se imprimieron con una errata en portada, figurando el año de 1562 en lugar del de 1563, si bien todos finalizan con el mismo colofón de marzo de 1563.En su primera parte recoge, en forma de diálogo, un examen de los diferentes tipos de demonios 'sublunares' (existentes en la Tierra) que acompañan a los hombres y enturbian su comportamiento, examinando cuál era su naturaleza física y ofreciendo algunos remedios contra sus influencias. La segunda parte repasa las diferentes clases de ceremoniales mágicos, cerrándose con un breve texto sobre las brujas. De los ceremoniales mágicos relata qué pueblos o culturas los empleaban y cómo los ponían en práctica, abarcando desde la Nigromancia a la Axiomancia, pasando entre otras por la Piromancia o la Ictiomancia, acudiendo en cuatro ocasiones (p. 60, 64, 69 y 76) a ilustraciones xilográficas aclaratorias de las que la primera representa el disco lulliano para la realización de pronósticos, la segunda el cedazo empleado (y el modo de sujetarlo) en las adivinaciones por coscinosmancia, la tercera ofrece la imagen de un signáculo y la cuarta un diagrama de escritura del 'abracadabra' sanador de los gnósticos. En el breve texto final argumenta que las brujas deben ser llevadas a la hoguera, no ya por herejes y por su trato carnal con el diablo, sino porque si no se incrementaría su número y todo el mundo acabaría expuesto a sus encantamientos.Hay quienes señalan(1) que esta Isagoge (Introducción) a los demonios sublunares forma parte de otra obra suya, el ___________ (Pantopólion -galería, muestrario-), porque así consta en la portada de este: Pantopolion, continens omnium ferme quadrupedum. naturas. Primero este 'De materia daemonium Isagoge' y después el Pantopolion, y que, con la impresión de este último, se tomó la decisión de difundirlo acompañado del primero. Así se desprendería de que el tratado de los demonios sublunares posee portada, dedicatoria, elenco de autores citados, índice y colofón propios, y paginación y signaturas separadas. De que, por su parte, el Pantopólion propiamente dicho, aun formado internamente por dos partes diferenciadas, estas se desarrollan con paginación corrida y termina con su propio y extenso índice culminado en su propio colofón. The first, on the preservation of health is by the professor of medicine Georg Pictorius from Villingen (c.1500- 1569; german name: Georg Maler) who practised as a physician in Ensisheim (Alsace). His dialogues between Teofrasto and Polilogo were first published the previous year in Latin (Tuendae sanitatis ratio; Basel 1549). They contain discussions about the importance of food with details about several kinds of meat, wine, vegetables etc. They also consider sleep, exercise, vacations etc. - The second part on the preservation of youth and retarding old age is by the famous Catalan 13th century physician and religious reformer Arnaldus de Vilanova (c.1240-1311). It again contains chapters about bread, wine, meat, fish etc. - The translator is a so-called Pamphilo Fiorembene who added a dedication to Mavlise Grimani. - Title-page with an old ownership inscription by a Gio. Antonio Ferrer dated 1563. Later (18th. cent.) inscriptions on the endpapers by Michele Angelo Ferrero and Domenico Cardino. On the title a Joseph Rubeus has then crossed out the first owner and put his name. Last endpaper with calculations in ink. Minor browning, only few leaves at the beginning and end with some light marginal staining, else mostly clean and fine.
