Looking For A Fight A Memoir "I should have been alarmed at the canvas I had, in my bullheadedness, unwittingly stepped into--but I never could back down from a challenge," writes Lynn Snowden Picket in her frank, powerful memoir. An accomplished journalist, Lynn had just completed the New York Marathon and was toned and fit, but underneath she was smarting from a recent and hurtful divorce. Seeking an outlet for her stifled aggression, her trainer led her to a sweat-stained gym in Brooklyn, a place renowned for producing skilled, hard-hitting boxers. At Gleason's, Lynn would learn how to fight. Lynn steps into the ring with a cockiness that is "part naivete and part rage." Before long she's sparring with men twice her size, with years more experience. For the men at Gleason's, fighting is sometimes their only available path to glory, money, and fame. At their hands, three times a week, Lynn's ribs slam against her lungs, her face bruises, her hands swell. More difficult to overcome, however, are the tenacious panic attacks that come both in and outside the ring. Gleason's has become the focal point of Lynn's life; its mixed smells of machismo, adrenaline, and fear have become her own. After ten months Lynn is ready for her first public fight against a woman, her equal in weight and strength. This match will be the greatest test of Lynn's skill. The greatest test of her courage, however, will be knowing when to quit. Solid binding. Moderate edgewear on the boards. Moderate shelf wear. When playing the Bird Opening, white often wants to embark upon a strategy of controlling the central dark squares and perhaps later launching a Kingside attack, bolstered by white's natural territorial advantage on this side of the board that he has staked out on move one! As with many openings without any early central pawn tension, both sides have numerous possible set-ups and a large degree of flexibility in the Bird Opening. White has some set-ups where he fianchettos the light bishop and places it on g2, for example, and black has some off-beat setups of their own. Condition: Edge wear, corners bumped else very good.

The Scotch Game, or Scotch Opening, is a chess opening that begins with the moves: 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 Ercole del Rio, in his 1750 treatise Sopra il giuoco degli Scacchi, Osservazioni pratiche d anonimo Autore Modenese ("On the game of Chess, practical Observations by an anonymous Modenese Author"), was the first author to mention what is now called the Scotch Game. The opening received its name from a correspondence match in 1824 between Edinburgh and London. Popular in the 19th century, by 1900 the Scotch had lost favour among top players because it was thought to release the central tension too early and allow Black to equalise without difficulty. More recently, grandmasters Garry Kasparov and Jan Timman helped to re-popularize the Scotch when they used it as a surprise weapon to avoid the well-analyzed Ruy Lopez. Condition: Corners bumped, rubbed and creased, edge wear, lightly soiled else very good.

An excellent quality color 35mm print of Redskin, however, survives, and a contemporary revival at the Giornate del Cinema Muto in Pordenone, Italy, allowed film historians to rediscover this late silent era example of what might be called an ethnographic Westernpart documentary of the lives of Pueblo dwellers and part narrative fiction - Michelle Koerner." 5 plates, including a portrait of J.
