The Symposium Chair was Dr. Adrash Ramakumar. This symposium coincided with the 50th anniversary of the Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute and there was a Steering Committee that coordinated the recognition of this half-century event. Dr. Ramakumar conceptualized, designed and conducted the 1st International RadioInformatics symposium in 2011 with more than 175 guest from all parts of the world. RadioInformatics; application of Bioinformatics to solve the needs of radiation biology was a direct product and conceptualization of my passion to bioinformatics and entrepreneurial spirits to push the boundaries of science with cross-platform technologies to address critical unanswered science. Radiology informatics, also referred to as imaging informatics, is a subspecialty of radiology concerned with applying information science to radiology. Imaging informatics is part of the larger field of clinical informatics which is in turn part of biomedical informatics. Radiology informatics has some overlap with specific parts of the fields of medical physics, computer science, data science, and cognitive science. Presumed First Edition, first printing thus.

Illustrations (most in color). Signed on half-title. Visitors have long loved the two dollhouses featured in this book. The handsome Morris-Canby-Rumford dollhouse belonged to one family from the time it was built and furnished in 1820 until it was given to the Folk Art Center in 1981. It still holds many of its original Empire-style furnishings as well as later pieces copied from eighteenth-century antique furniture owned by the family. The Long Island dollhouse is an impressive, 12-foot-long, Colonial Revival-style structure believed to have been built about a century after the Morris-Canby-Rumford dollhouse. Its rooms contain many finely crafted antique neoclassic and Victorian pieces as well as more modern furnishings and accessories given to the house by generous donors. Several toy rooms rarely seen by visitors are also included in Dollhouses, Miniature Kitchens, and Shops. Now people who missed previous exhibits can imagine laboring over the large stove top in the tile-roof kitchen, appreciate the new style embodied by the turn-of-the-century kitchen, and admire the fashionable hats modeled by the beautifully painted mannequins in the millinery shop.

Joe is also the author of the well-known "It All Started with Prince Rupert" - a popular history of Czechs and Slovaks in Canada. This book seeks to honor the spirit that motivated the men and women who came to Canada a century or more ago and conquered the wilderness. They sepnt their first winters in holes they dug in the ground, They prevailed against fires and drought and never gave in. The intensity of their purpose was overpowering, their vision clear, and their dedication was great. They are linked with the Czech and Slovak descendents in Canada today, helping fulfill a dream, or perhaps achieve a miracle.

Bibliography. Index. Signed and dated by the author on the title page. Paul Barrett is the deputy director of the Center for Business and Human Rights at New York University's Stern School of Business. He joined the Center in September 2017 after working for more than three decades as a journalist and author focusing on the intersection of business, law, and society. He worked for 12 years for Bloomberg Businessweek magazine, where he served at various times as the editor of an award-winning investigative team and a writer covering topics such as energy and the environment, military procurement, and the civilian firearm industry. From 1986 to 2005, he wrote for The Wall Street Journal, serving as the newspaper's Supreme Court corespondent and as special projects editor. Paul is the author of four critically acclaimed nonfiction books, the most recent of which are GLOCK: The Rise of America's Gun and THE LAW OF THE JUNGLE: The $19 Billion Legal Battle Over Oil in the Rain Forest and the Lawyer Who'd Stop at Nothing to Win. Paul has focused primarily on researching and writing a series of reports on the role and obligations of the social media industry in a democracy. Specific topics have included the problems of disinformation, the consequences of outsourced content moderation, the debate over the liability of social media platforms for harmful content, and how Congress could enhance the Federal Trade Commission's consumer protection authority to regulate social media companies. Paul has a J.D. from Harvard Law School. From the dust jacket: The gripping story of one American lawyer's obsessive crusade-waged at any cost-against Big Oil on behalf of the poor farmers and indigenous tribes of the Amazon rainforest. Steven Donziger, a self-styled social activist and Harvard educated lawyer, signed on to a budding class action lawsuit against multinational Texaco (which later merged with Chevron to become the third-largest corporation in America). The suit sought reparations for the Ecuadorian peasants and tribes people whose lives were affected by decades of oil production near their villages and fields. During twenty years of legal hostilities in federal courts in Manhattan and remote provincial tribunals in the Ecuadorian jungle, Donziger and Chevron's lawyers followed fierce no-holds-barred rules. Donziger, a larger-than-life, loud-mouthed showman, proved himself a master orchestrator of the media, Hollywood, and public opinion. He cajoled and coerced Ecuadorian judges on the theory that his noble ends justified any means of persuasion. And in the end, he won an unlikely victory, a $19 billion judgment against Chevon--the biggest environmental damages award in history. But the company refused to surrender or compromise. Instead, Chevron targeted Donziger personally, and its counter-attack revealed damning evidence of his politicking and manipulation of evidence. Suddenly the verdict, and decades of Donziger's single-minded pursuit of the case, began to unravel. Written with the texture and flair of the best narrative nonfiction, Law of the Jungle is an unputdownable story in which there are countless victims, a vast region of ruined rivers and polluted rainforest, but very few heroes. First Edition [Stated], First Printing [Stated].

Joan Peters (née Friedman; April 29, 1936 January 5, 2015), was a journalist and broadcaster. She wrote the 1984 book From Time Immemorial, a controversial account of the origins of the Palestinians. In the 1970s and early 1980s, Peters wrote for magazines and was a consultant in the creation of CBS news documentaries in 1973 about the IsraeliPalestinian conflict, and provided commentary on the subject for PBS. Her dedication to the cause of Israel may have been triggered by a visit in the 1970s to the Soviet Union, where officials treated her and her husband with suspicion. According to the Walker Agency, which booked speaking and touring engagements for her, Peters also served as an adviser to the White House on American foreign policy in the Middle East during the Carter administration. In From Time Immemorial (1984), she argued that Palestinians are largely not indigenous to modern Israel and therefore have no claim to its territory. The book, a bestseller, became controversial. Scholars and writers such as Norman Finkelstein, Noam Chomsky, Edward Said, Yehoshua Porath. and Ian and David Gilmour criticized it. Shortly before her death, the Israeli ambassador to the United Nations, Ron Prosor, telephoned to convey to her that Israel's prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu was deeply grateful for her work. The author argues that the Jews did not displace Arabs in Palestine, but just the reverse; a hidden but major Arab migration and immigration took place into areas settled by Jews in pre-Israel Palestine. This monumental and fascinating book, the product of seven years of original research, will forever change the terms of the debate about the conflicting claims of the Arabs and the Jews in the Middle East. The weight of the comprehensive evidence found and brilliantly analyzed by historian and journalist Joan Peters answers many crucial questions, among them: Why are the Arab refugees from Israel seen in a different light from all the other, far more numerous peoples who were displaced after World War II? Why, indeed, are they seen differently from the Jewish refugees who were forced, in 1948 and after, to leave the Arab countries to find a haven in Israel? Who, in fact, are the Arabs who were living within the borders of present-day Israel, and where did they come from? Joan Peters's highly readable and moving development of the answers to these and related questions will appear startling, even to those on both sides of the argument who have considered themselves to be in command of the facts. On the basis of a definitive weight of hitherto unexamined population and other historical data, much of it buried in untouched archives, Peters demonstrates that Jews did not displace Arabs in Palestine-just the reverse: Arabs displaced Jews; that a hidden but major Arab migration and immigration took place into areas settled by Jews in pre-Israel Palestine; that a substantial number of the Arab refugees called Palestinians in reality had foreign roots; that for every Arab refugee who left Israel in 1948, there was a Jewish refugee who fled or was expelled from his Arab birthplace at the same time-today's much discussed Sephardic majority in Israel is in fact composed mainly of these Arab-born Jewish refugees or their offspring; that Britain, the Mandatory power, winked at and even encouraged Arab immigration into Palestine between the two World Wars; that by disguising the Arab immigrants as "indigenous native Palestinian Arabs," the British justified their restrictions on Jewish immigration and settlement, dooming masses of European Jews to destruction in the Nazi camps. Joan Peters also unfolds a historical record to shatter the widely held belief that Arabs and Jews harmoniously coexisted for centuries in the Arab world-the fact is that the Jews, along with other non-Muslims, were second-class citizens, oppressed in the Muslim world for more than a millennium. And this continuing prejudicial tradition of hostility underlies, as well, every Arab action toward the state of Israel.

Book of Memoirs for the Members of the 71st U.S. Naval Construction Battalion. Illustrated endpapers. Profusely illustrated with black and white photographs. Tears to a few pages. First hand account of this battalion's service in the Pacific theatre during World War II. When WWII broke out the Seabees did not exist. The logistics of a two-ocean war was a major concern. Rear Admiral Moreell completely understood the issues at hand. What needed to be done was build staging bases and create a military construction force to do build them to take the war to the enemy. The concept of Naval Construction Battalions had been developing in the 1930s. The onset of war clarified the need to be able to develop advance bases to project American power. The solution was to tap the United States vast pool of skilled labor. Put it in uniform to build anything, anywhere under any conditions and get the Marine Corps to train them Some of the items in this book are as follows: Construction Sites: Solomon Islands, Caroline Islands, Marshall Islands, Admiralty Islands and New Hebrides Islands.
