Hillert Ibbeken, geboren 1935, studierte Geologie und habilitierte sich 1968 an der FU Berlin, wo er 1970 Professor für Geologie wurde. Seit seiner Pensionierung 1997 widmet er sich der Architekturfotografie. Es entstanden zwei Bildbände, über die mittelalterlichen Dorfkirchen des Fläming und die noch stehenden Gebäude von Karl Friedrich Schinkel, sowie ein Architekturführer über Ludwig Persius.
