There is a large chip at rear of clear plastic dust jacket. Inscribed and signed on the front free endpaper by the author (Paul Beigelman) to George Houle…'. In the preparation of this catalogue, advice was obtained from experts in specialized areas, librarians, and some knowledgeable booksellers. Dr. Beigelman earned his medical degree at USC in 1948 and completed his internship at the Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center. Though Dr. Beigelman has worked with many universities, he maintained close ties with USC. He was a retired professor of medicine and pharmacology, and was a self-proclaimed bibliophile. In addition to establishing the endowed scholarship fund at Keck, Dr. Beigelman has donated nearly two dozen rare books from the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries to USC's library. George Houle began selling books in high school as a way to fund his college tuition. It wasn't until years later after he earned a degree in Library Sciences and worked for a number of public libraries in California that he began cataloging for Sotheby's. George founded Houle Rare Books in 1976 and became a member of the ABAA in 1978.
