Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. ILLUSTRATED Ilustrador. VERY NICE DARK BLUE COVER, GOLD DESIGN AND PRINT SPINE. FRONTISPIECE A PICTURE OF CARDINAL WOLSEY. FORMER OWNERS LABEL IN FRONT. TIGHT AND CLEAN THROUGHOUT. FOR THE LOVER OF HISTORY, CATHOLIC HISTORY AND CARDINAL WOLSEY. 11 CHAPTERS WITH GREAT DETAIL. Thomas Wolsey (c. March 1473 - 29 November 1530) was an English statesman and Catholic cardinal. When Henry VIII became King of England in 1509, Wolsey became the king's almoner. Wolsey's affairs prospered and by 1514 he had become the controlling figure in virtually all matters of state. He also held important ecclesiastical appointments. These included the Archbishop of York?the second most important role in the English church?and that of papal legate. His appointment as a cardinal by Pope Leo X in 1515 gave him precedence over all other English clergy. The highest political position Wolsey attained was Lord Chancellor, the king's chief adviser (formally, as his successor and disciple Thomas Cromwell was not). In that position, he enjoyed great freedom and was often depicted as the alter rex ("other king"). ANTIQUE BOOKS DEN, WHERE HISTORY LIVES.

Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. ILLUSTRATED Ilustrador. VERY NICE DARK BLUE COVER, GOLD DESIGN AND PRINT SPINE. FRONTISPIECE A PICTURE OF GENERAL GARIBALDI. FORMER OWNERS LABEL IN FRONT. TIGHT AND CLEAN THROUGHOUT. FOR THE LOVER OF HISTORY, GENERAL GARIBALDI. 52 CHAPTERS WITH GREAT DETAIL. Garibaldi was born in Melbourne, Australia, the son of Ricciotti Garibaldi and Harriet Constance Hopcraft. Together with his father, he took part in the Greco-Turkish War of 1897 alongside the Greeks and afterwards fought with the liberals against Cipriano Castro in Venezuela, and in other conflicts in South America. He volunteered and served with great distinction in the British Army during the Second Boer War, carrying with him a sword given to his grandfather by the working men of Tyneside, England, in 1854. He served as a lieutenant colonel (teniente coronel) in the army of Francisco I. Madero during the initial victories of the 1910 Mexican Revolution. Plaza Garibaldi in Mexico City was named in honor of his actions in the battle of Nuevo Casas Grandes. Pancho Villa sacked Lt Col Garibaldi because of a bitter controversy over the credit for the victory at First Battle of Ciudad Juárez in 1911, but the name of the plaza (formerly Pila de la Habana) stuck nonetheless, despite the way he left the Army of the Revolution. Garibaldi again served with the Greek Army during the First Balkan War in 1912. ANTIQUE BOOKS DEN, WHERE HISTORY LIVES.

TIGHT AND CLEAN THROUGHOUT. FOR THE LOVER OF HISTORY AND RUSSIA. 15 CHAPTERS WITH GREAT DETAIL. Peter I (Russian; 9 June 1672 - 8 February 1725), commonly known as Peter the Great, was Tsar of all Russia from 1682, and the first Emperor of all Russia from 1721 until his death in 1725. He reigned jointly with his half-brother Ivan V until 1696. From this year, Peter was an absolute monarch, an autocrat who remained the ultimate authority. Most of Peter's reign was consumed by long wars against the Ottoman and Swedish Empires. Despite initial difficulties, the wars were ultimately successful and led to expansion to the Sea of Azov and the Baltic Sea, thus laying the groundwork for the Imperial Russian Navy. TIGHT AND CLEAN THROUGHOUT. FOR THE LOVER OF HISTORY, CATHOLIC HISTORY AND CARDINAL RICHELIEU. 10 CHAPTERS WITH GREAT DETAIL. Armand Jean du Plessis, 1st Duke of Richelieu 9 September 1585 - 4 December 1642), known as Cardinal Richelieu, was a French statesman and prelate of the Catholic Church. He became known as l'Éminence rouge, or "the Red Eminence", a term derived from the title "Eminence" applied to cardinals and from the red robes that they customarily wear. Consecrated a bishop in 1607, Richelieu was appointed Foreign Secretary in 1616. He continued to rise through the hierarchy of both the Catholic Church and the French government, becoming a cardinal in 1622 and chief minister to King Louis XIII of France in 1624. He retained that office until his death in 1642, when he was succeeded by Cardinal Mazarin, whose career he had fostered. Richelieu became engaged in a bitter dispute with Marie de Médici, the king's mother, and formerly his close ally. ANTIQUE BOOKS DEN, WHERE HISTORY LIVES.

TIGHT AND CLEAN THROUGHOUT. Israel Putnam (January 7, 1718 - May 29, 1790), popularly known as "Old Put", was an American military officer and landowner who fought with distinction at the Battle of Bunker Hill during the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783). He also served as an officer with Rogers' Rangers during the French and Indian War (1754-1763), when he was captured by Mohawk warriors. He was saved from the ritual burning given to enemies by the intervention of French officer Molang, with whom the Mohawks were allied. Putnam's courage and fighting spirit became known far beyond his home of Connecticut's borders through the circulation of folk legends in the American colonies and states celebrating his exploits. Hardcover. Condición: Fair. Burt's Home Library Edition. Very uncommon title extracted from Michelet's History of France. Red cloth hardcover boards with gilt lettering. Boards with heavy wear and staining; pages very dusty with damp staining and soiling, especially to the end pages. Fair only. Jules Michelet (1798 - 1874) was a French historian. In his 1855 work, Histoire de France (History of France), Jules Michelet was the first historian to use and define the word Renaissance ('Re-birth' in French) as a period in Europe's cultural history that represented a drastic break from the Middle Ages, creating a modern understanding of humanity and its place in the world.
