Illustrated with a few title page facsimiles and two fold-outs including the proof of the preface to the first edition of THE DECLINE AND FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE, corrected in Gibbon's hand. At the end of the book are three appendices, a list of attacks on Gibbon, table of authors, and an index. Bound in the original red cloth, stamped in shiny gold.
