In August 1916 the Canadians, now 60,000 strong were ordered to take their part in the Somme Offensive. Losses in the Battle had already exceeded 150,000 and more men were needed to feed the guns, now it was the Canadians turn. In a series of brutal assaults, in September-October 1916 they slowly pushed their line forward against uncut wire, massive gunfire and a tenacious German defense. In the end 25,000 Canadians were killed or wounded. It was a sobering experience that brought the Canadians an opportunity to evaluate the failings of the Campaign, and put the Lessons Learned in practice in the next big fight, Vimy Ridge. Asides include: The Odds, Execution by Firing Squad and The Make-Up of an Army. Signed by Author(s).

On Thursday, April 22nd, 1915 the Canadians would fight their first great battle against the Germans, and would face their secret weapon, poison gas. By the end of the weekend 2000 Canadians would be dead and 4000 wounded. It was a bloody introduction to the new war. None-the-less the Canadians performed courageously, and fought as no one thought they could. It was a great day for Canada, Boys. Asides in the book include; The Nationalities that Served, Technological Slaughter, Some Slang of the Great War and In Flanders Fields.

The invasion of Sicily and the battle for Italy were the first full-fledged fighting for the Canadian Army. They performed well, and in December 1943 they would be handed the mantle, to crush the German Line at the Moro River and take Ortona. This was to be their first great test. Against brilliantly designed defensive works the Canadians cracked the Moro River Line, and turned into Ortona, where they would have to beat the Germans in hand-to-hand, and house-to-house fighting. They would have to Mousehole their way to victory, and that's what they did. Ortona was the Canadian Army's first great challenge and its first great victory. Signed by Author(s).

On the first day of battle the Canadians advanced 12 km, and smashed the German Army. Over the next four days they pushed on another 6 km. It was bloody revenge as the Germans paid dearly for sinking a Canadian Hospital Ship and killing 14 Canadian nurses. Arthur Currie considered Amiens the greatest Canadian victory of the war. This volume includes an historical Overview of the Battle; a Battlefield Tour of 9 Points (plus a tour of the Charge of Flowerdew s Squadron at Moreuil); a list of 29 Cemeteries and memorials where the Canadians killed in Battle are commemorated or buried. Asides in the book include: The Llandovery Castle, the Charge at Moreuil Wood, Andy Mynarski VC, and The German Offensive 1918. Profusely illustrated with maps, photos and drawings, and includes a fold-out Tour map at the back of the book. This volume was included in the TV series, For King & Empire, Eps 5. The DVD covers the battle like the book, and is literally a walking tour. Signed by Author(s).

They fought in every major battle, and were often caught in poorly planned attacks and that resulted in terrible casualties. They were Soldiers of Misfortune. In two battles on the Somme in 1916, Beaumont-Hamel and Guedecourt, they were wiped out. Twice in 1917, at Monchy and Masinieres the Regiment was decimated . This volume covers the five battlefields on which the Newfoundland Government erected the unique Caribou Monument; Beaumont-Hamel, Guedecourt, Monchy, Masinieres and Courtrai. This volume includes an historical Overview of the five Battles; five Battlefield Tours; a list of 23 Cemeteries and memorials where the Canadians killed in Battles are commemorated or buried. There is a special section on the planning and building of the classic Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorial Park and the two men, Tom Nangle and Rudy Cochius, that made it happen. Profusely illustrated with maps, photos, biographies and drawings. Signed by Author(s).

The Battle of Mount Sorrel or the Canadian Battle of Ypres, was a brief and bloody fight between the Canadians and the Germans over a small piece of the Ypres Salient. Initially the Germans inflicted a major defeat on the Canadians, driving them from hard-won trenches overlooking Ypres with mines and flamethrowers. The Canadians lost two Generals and 5 Colonels in one day. Humiliated by their defeat, the Canadians regained their confidence under their new Commander s calm, and thorough planning . Only 11 days after their defeat, they struck back, driving off the Germans and regaining the sacred ground of the Ypres Salient. General Byng showed the Canadians that with the right planning, and leadership they could beat anyone. It was a turning point battle for the Canadians and a sign of things to come. This volume includes an historical Overview of the Battle; a Battlefield Tour of 6 Points; a list of 23 Cemeteries and memorials where the Canadians killed in Battle are commemorated or buried. Asides in the book include: the Mystery of Gordon Blackader, Byng of the Bing Boys, and the Story of the Menin Gate. Profusely illustrated with maps, photos and drawings, and includes a fold-out Tour map at the back of the book. This volume was made into a TV show, Lost Battlefields (Mount Sorrel). The defeat of the German Army at Arras, forced a retreat behind the Canal du Nord, protecting the strategic German transport and communications hub of Cambrai. To defeat the Germans the Canadians would deploy an operation requiring perfect execution and surprise. They would launch a night attack with 60,000 across a narrow piece of the Canal du Nord. Only the Canadian Corps could possibly do it, and they did. They broke the German line and captured Cambrai, and pursued the fleeing German Army to Mons, where the Great War ended. This volume includes an historical Overview of the Battle; a Battlefield Tour of 8 Points; a list of 27 Cemeteries and memorials where the Canadians killed in Battle are commemorated or buried. Asides in the book include: The Spanish Flu, Mutiny 1919, The Westcott Twins, Mons, The Greatest Dogfight of the War and Per Ardua Astra.
