Peace is Our Answer is a 1950 collection of twelve linocuts by Australian artist and committed peace activist Noel Counihan, inspired by the politics and social hardships he'd experienced during and since the Second World War. They are accompanied by poems by Jack Lindsay, and have prefatory poems by Paul Eluard, Pablo Neruda, and Louis Aragon. Condition: This copy is in very good condition for age. There is an old, small water stain to the covers at the top of the spine but this has not penetrated to the pages. Slight tanning to the covers but they are otherwise in good order. The contents in clean condition and the inner binding secure.

Pablo Neruda; eigentlich Ricardo Eliécer Neftalí Reyes Basoalto (* 12. Juli 1904 in Parral; ? 23. September 1973 in Santiago de Chile), war ein chilenischer Dichter und Schriftsteller, der sich vor allem gegen den Faschismus in seinem Heimatland und in Spanien einsetzte. 1971 erhielt er den Nobelpreis für Literatur. Das frühe lyrische Werk Nerudas ist von der europäischen Avantgarde, insbesondere vom Surrealismus, beeinflusst. Dieser Frühstil ist durch einen außerordentlichen Reichtum an Assoziationen sowie die Außerkraftsetzung der Regeln von Syntax und Zeichensetzung charakterisiert. Das gilt auch für seinen ersten avantgardistischen Roman El habitante y su esperanza, der 1926 erschien. Im Laufe seiner schriftstellerischen Entwicklung nahm er immer mehr Einflüsse auf: Zu seinen stilistischen Vorbildern gehörten Arthur Rimbaud, Majakowski und vor allem Walt Whitman, dessen Porträt in allen seinen Häusern hing. Er betrachtete Whitmans Grashalme als Pionierleistung, die der amerikanischen Dichtung den Weg gewiesen habe. Neruda lehnte das Konzept einer ?reinen? Poesie, wie es z. B. HAP Grieshaber, ursprünglich getauft auf den Namen Helmut Andreas Paul Grieshaber (* 15. Februar 1909 in Rot an der Rot; ? 12. Mai 1981 in Eningen unter Achalm), war ein deutscher Grafiker und bildender Künstler. Sein bevorzugtes Medium war der großformatige abstrahierende Holzschnitt. HAP Grieshaber erneuerte nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg den Holzschnitt und entwickelte ihn zum eigenständigen, monumentalen Wandbild. Während der Diktatur des Nationalsozialismus konnte der in Reutlingen lebende, links orientierte Künstler nur im Verborgenen künstlerisch arbeiten. Dennoch entstand bereits in dieser Zeit ein beachtliches Holzschnittwerk. Landschaften der Schwäbischen Alb, Tiere, religiöse und mythologische Themen werden immer wieder im zeitgenössischen und politischen Kontext, aber auch davon losgelöst variiert. Während die frühen Arbeiten zunächst stark vom mittelalterlichen Linienholzschnitt ausgingen, gelang Grieshaber seit den späten 1930er Jahren eine überzeugende Synthese des Linienschnittes mit dem Flächenholzschnitt. Anfang der 1950er Jahre entstanden während seiner Tätigkeit an der Bernsteinschule die ersten lebensgroßen Holzschnitte, die er später zu teilweise mehrteiligen Zyklen erweiterte.
