Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: Very Good. The world is full of fanatics, and the dry, ravaged dictatorship of Errat has more than its fair share, but Saman Massoudi is not one of them. Although he is very enthusiastic about his bees. The world is full of violence, and more people get killed in Errat than most places, but Saman Massoudi never killed anyone. Not even the people who murdered his wife and children. Saman Massoudi just wants to be left in peace to make his honey. So it really isn't fair that Saman Massoudi, of all people, should be wrongly-identified by the Intelligence Services of the most powerful nation on the planet as a terrorist mastermind plotting to unleash a plague of killer bees on their nation. Saman Massoudi has never believed in war. But he'd better believe in this one. Because it's on him. Concerned, impassioned and very funny, 'Rule No.1' is the coruscating new novel for our times by a daring and prodigiously talented young novelist. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: new. Paperback. We are out of the safe zone. Transformative Adaptation (TrAd) helps us to transform our civilisation to be in readiness for the future and makes life worth living. Impacts beyond 1.5 degrees C, the agreed maximum limit-target for global overheating, are already here. In this context, adaptation, preparedness and resilience-building are no longer optional. They become central, pivotal to whether we survive, let alone flourish. The struggle to define adaptation will be the defining struggle of the coming decade. TrAd is adaptation that works with, not against nature. It reduces greenhouse gas emissions in the same breath as it guards us against the impacts of those emissions. This book sets out TrAd as a theory and a practice, a community and an attitude. Creating a flourishing future even in the jaws of adversity requires us first to imagine it together. Thrutopias are TrAd boldly and concretely imagined. Thrutopian stories show how we can get through by adapting to what is coming at us by transforming our systems. This book unpacks the theory of thrutopias and offers existing practical examples. Transformative Adaptation is the quintessential idea whose time has come. AUTHORS: Rupert Read is co-director of the Climate Majority Project and Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at the University of East Anglia. He is the author of several books, developed the concept of Transformative Adaptation and also invented the term 'Thrutopia'; an act of imagining the actual mechanics of how we transition from this broken, collapsing world to one that is in a process of transformation and healing on all levels. Since then he has been building Thrutopianism into his creative and scenarios work, including his viral internet short Out of the Ashes. Morgan Phillips is Global Action Plan's Director of Education and Youth Engagement, and a former co-director of climate change adaptation charity, The Glacier Trust, with whom he continues to volunteer. Morgan has worked internationally in the environmental sector for over 20 years. Having returned home to west Wales in 2022, Morgan is now governor at his local primary school and a member of the education committee at Black Mountains College. Morgan's 2021 book Great Adaptations - In the shadow of a climate crisis was published by Arkbound UK and has since been published in Japanese. Transformative Adaptation is a positive form of adaptation, acknowledging the seriousness of climate chaos, understanding that there are no short term fixes and also finding ways to reduce our impacts in all aspects of life that also transform our lives and society at large. Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Where is the world really heading, and what can we do about it? This book takes an unflinching look at climate change, drawing upon the latest data to analyse what the next decades hold in store. With atmospheric CO2 at unprecedented levels and insufficient action being taken to prevent a rise in temperatures above 2 degrees centigrade, we are not just looking at significant disruption but the possibility of societal collapse. For the first time ever, the magnitude of this challenge is faced head on, with avenues to truly address it presented. Case studies and models from over 18 authors around the world show ways that we can build adaptation and resilience, as well as what 'zero emissions' really mean. The book also provides a platform for those from a range of diverse backgrounds, whose unique experience and knowledge brings vital new perspectives. From those already feeling the impacts of climate change in the Global South to community leaders fighting to create real alternatives, we get a chance to understand the nuances and possibilities of the task ahead.
