Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. First Printing [stated]. x, 150 pages. Figures. Maps. Appendices. Sources. Notes. Index, DJ has slight wear and soiling. Roger Carl Molander (November 20, 1940 March 25, 2012) was an American government official and activist. He received his doctorate in Engineering Science and Nuclear Engineering from University of California, Berkeley in 1967. From 1968 to 1981, Molander served in numerous government positions in the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency, Department of Defense, and the National Security Council (NSC) staff. He was an aide to Paul Nitze during the first Strategic Arms Limitation Talks (SALT I) and later while on the NSC staff served as Chairman of interagency Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty (SALT) Working Group with responsibility for preparing all of the analytic material in support of SALT II decision making. Robbie Nichols was an assistant to the president of the Roosevelt Center and a former assistant to the president of Ground Zero. She has a M.A. degree and had served as a Congressional staff member. The book is a "primer" designed to educate average citizens about the issues surrounding nuclear weapons and the arms race. The authors, one of whom (Molander) was a past White House advisor on national security affairs, express alarm at the failure of nuclear nations to control the spread of nuclear technology. Key aspects of the book include: An examination of the roots of nuclear proliferation and how the problem has grown and an argument that theories like mutual assured destruction (MAD) and deterrence are ineffective in a world where many different groups and nations might obtain nuclear capabilities. It contains a fictional account of a nuclear bombing of Washington, D.C., used to dramatize the potential consequences and the helplessness of world powers. It provided insights into how concerned citizens can work to address the nuclear threat. The book is an educational resource and an appeal to action.

Añadir al carritoTrade paperback. Condición: Very good. Trade paperback (US). Glued binding. xxv, [1], 82 p. Illustrations. (Figures and Tables). Strategic Information Warfare (SIW) lies at the intersection of the information revolution and the ongoing revolution in strategic warfare. Our reliance on information systems may present an attractive target to potential post-Cold War adversaries. This could lead to attacks on critical information-dependent infrastructures, such as electric power, telecommunications, and transportation that would threaten both our economic security and our military strategy. The goal of this project was to formulate a common DoD strategy and policy framework for addressing the challenge of strategic information warfare. Our result appears to offer a useful means of organizing thinking about the emerging SIW problem and achieving an inaugural action plan. It should therefore contribute to the ongoing effort to identify current U.S. SIW-related issues on which decisions need to be made and the appropriate forum(s). This framework and process, though oriented to U.S. national decisionmaking, should also contribute to preparations for the imperative, and even more challenging, international decisionmaking process on this subject. This report summarizes research performed by RAND for the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Command, Control, Communications and Intelligence) in response to a request. The objective of this effort was to derive a framework for policy and strategy decisionmaking on problems raised by the emerging potential of Strategic Information Warfare. From Wikipedia: "Roger Carl Molander (November 30, 1940 March 25, 2012) was an American government official and activist. Born in Perham, Minnesota, Molander grew up in Marinette, Wisconsin. He graduated from University of Wisconsin Madison and received his doctorate degree from University of California, Berkeley. Molander was an aide to Paul Nitze and worked with the United States National Security Council. In 1981, Molander left government service and formed Ground Zero, an advocacy and educational group to provide information about nuclear disarmament. Molander died in Washington, D.C.".
