Book is clean and bright throughout with unmarked text, free of inscriptions and stamps, firmly bound. Minor handling wear only. Straight uncreased spine. -- This landmark volume redefines Feminist New Testament Studies by transcending parochial boundaries of geography, culture, and academia. Emerging from the 2003 Scripps College conference, "The Global Future of Feminist New Testament Studies," it assembles a polyphonic chorus of scholars from North America, Europe, Asia, Latin America, Africa, and the Diaspora. Their critical essays, responses, and reflective dialogues dismantle the hegemonic Eurocentric interpretations of scripture, instead foregrounding intersectional lenses of gender, race, class, and power. The contributors interrogate not merely what scripture means but how scripture works - as a tool of oppression, resistance, liberation, or cultural negotiation - in diverse global contexts. Through three thematic "Conversations," the volume excavates the ambivalent terrains of globalization: its homogenizing forces versus the heterogenizing resilience of local feminist theologies. Elisabeth Schüssler Fiorenza charts the critical global feminist biblical studies landscape; Gay Byron probes the challenge of "Blackness" in rearticulating feminist hermeneutics; Hisako Kinukawa offers a Japanese/Asian feminist glimpse into biblical studies; while Musa Dube provocatively rewrites Rahab's scarlet cord as a red ribbon of HIV/AIDS activism. These essays collectively subvert the notion of a monolithic feminist biblical critique, instead celebrating pluriversal readings born from the margins. Importantly, this volume is not a culmination but a catalytic beginning. It acknowledges the incompleteness of its global representation (especially from the Global South) yet insists that partial perspectives can ignite transformative conversations. By fusing rigorous exegesis with transnational feminist solidarities, the authors craft a counter-geography of New Testament studies - one that privileges the epistemologies of the formerly colonized, the silenced, and the subjects (not objects) of their own narratives. This book is an urgent invitation: join the conversation, disrupt the centers, and co-create the future of feminist biblical scholarship.
