Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good+. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. 1st Edition. Signed First Edition, First Printing of this early basketball biography of the first dominating superstar in professional basketball, George Mikan. Not only Mr. Basketball of his era, Mikan remains a candidate with the likes of Bill Russell, Michael Jordan, and LeBron James for the all-time Mr. Basketball. Really? Really. Did he really 83.3 percent of his team's points in a pro game? Yes, and that's a really unbeatable record. But that otherworldly mark is just a quirky footnote in a career that arguably had the biggest impact of any on the shape of professional basketball. During the first years after the founding of the NBA, Mikan collected the first bunch of banners for the regal Lakers franchise, albeit in the club's Minneapolis days. The first overwhelming basketball big man, he was so dominant that the NBA adopted a so-called Mikan Rule to level his prowess. That's the creation of the modern Lane AKA The Paint with its limit of three seconds residence in that vital patch of floor. The crime of Goaltending was devised in another Mikan limiting measure. And cunning, but snooze-inducing, measures to limit the damage inflicted bh Mikan led to the creation of the 24 second clock. Then there's the Three Pointer. Three Pointer? How does that relate to a guy who was washed -- before Michael Jordan touched his first basketball -- after playing a playoff series on a broken leg? Mikan was a founder of the ABA and, despite an on-court history as Mr. Camp By The Basket, was a huge force behind the creation of The Trey. Steph Curry thanks you, George -- even if you were a Laker. Signed by George Mikan on the front endpaper. Yellow cloth, 80 pages, illustrated. The dust jacket has chips at the edges and a previous owner name inked on the back cover. Signed by Author(s).

Añadir al carritoPostkarte. Condición: Sehr gut. Original Index-Card von George Lawrence Mikan Jr. mit schwarzem Stift signiert, mit schwarzweiss Echtfoto von Mikan vor Basketballkorb auf schwarzem Tonkarton montiert /// George Lawrence Mikan Jr. (June 18, 1924 - June 1, 2005), nicknamed Mr. Basketball, was a dominant American professional basketball player for the Chicago American Gears of the National Basketball League (NBL) and the Minneapolis Lakers of the NBL, the Basketball Association of America (BAA) and the National Basketball Association (NBA). Invariably playing with thick, round spectacles, the 6 ft 10 in (2.08 m), 245 lb (111 kg) Mikan is seen as one of the pioneers of professional basketball, redefining it as a game of so-called big men with his prolific rebounding, shot blocking, and his talent to shoot over smaller defenders with his ambidextrous hook shot, the result of his namesake Mikan Drill. He also utilized the underhanded free-throw shooting technique long before Rick Barry made it his signature shot.[2] Mikan had a successful playing career, winning seven NBL, BAA, and NBA championships, an NBA All-Star Game MVP trophy, and three scoring titles. He was a member of the first four NBA All-Star games, and the first six All-BAA and All-NBA Teams. Mikan was so dominant that he prompted several rule changes in the NBA: among them, the introduction of the goaltending rule, the widening of the foul lane?known as the "Mikan Rule"?and the creation of the shot clock.[3] After his playing career, Mikan became one of the founders of the American Basketball Association (ABA), serving as commissioner of the league. He was instrumental in forming the Minnesota Timberwolves. In his later years, Mikan was involved in a long-standing legal battle against the NBA, to increase the meager pensions of players who had retired before the league became lucrative. In 2005, Mikan died after a long battle with diabetes.[4] For his accomplishments, Mikan was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1959, made the 25th and 35th NBA Anniversary Teams of 1970 and 1980, and was elected one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History in 1996. Since April 2001, a statue of Mikan shooting his trademark hook shot graces the entrance of the Timberwolves' Target Center.[3] /// Autogramm Autograph signiert signed signee /// Standort Wimregal Ill-Umschl2020-2 Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 10.
