Añadir al carritoCloth. Condición: Good-only. Second impression. Large 8vos. Original green buckram, spines lettered in gilt. Spines darkened, boards unevenly sunned, scored and stained, bumping and wear to extremities; head of spine of Vol. II frayed. Edges toned. University of Cambridge Marshall Library of Economics book labels to front pastedowns, with pencil note above each: "Reference Section," and pencil note to ffeps: "13/12/91 Economists' Bookshop 2 Vol," plus 'Marshall Library of Economics, Cambridge' stamps in violent ink to title pages., p. 15, and final pages, some pen and pencil scoring, occasional marginalia and stains from use, shaken, hinges of Vol. II cracked. Front panel of original dust jacket pasted to rear pastedown of Vol. I. Else, clean. Good-only As one might expect, a well-handled association set of the British second impression of Eli Heckscher's magisterial two volume history of mercantilism, with a pleasing institutional provenance: both volumes feature the austere University of Cambridge Marshall Library of Economics book label, stating (in bold): "NOT TO BE TAKEN OUT"; rather aptly, Alfred Marshall, for whom the library is named, had been a significant influence on the Swedish economist, who "described Marshall's Principles [of Economics (1890)] as the starting point of his [own] theoretical studies" (Carlson, 1992). Long since de-accessioned (and later sold by the Economists' Bookshop, London), Heckscher's important C20th economic history first appeared in Swedish in 1931, with the English translation prepared from the German edition and revised by the author. From 1909, Heckscher was Professor in Political Economy and Statistics at the Stockholm School of Economics and, ten years later, exchanged this title for a research chair in economic history. He is known for the HeckscherOhlin theorem, an influential model of international trade. Following Alfred Marshall's death in 1924, the Marshall Library of Economics was founded in his honour by his widow Mary Paley Marshall, with support from John Maynard Keynes.
