Blind-Stamped Cloth. Condición: Very Good. Second Edition. Indigenous Races of the Earth (1868) - A Landmark in 19th-Century Ethnology A Profusely Illustrated Quarto of Scientific & Cultural History Step into the complex world of Victorian scientific inquiry with this 1868 edition of Indigenous Races of the Earth. Published by J.B. Lippincott, this work served as the monumental follow-up to the authors' controversial Types of Mankind (1854). It represents a critical primary source for historians studying the development of ethnology, cranioscopy, and archaeology before the widespread adoption of Darwinian theory. Key Features of this Volume: Comprehensive Scholarship: Features fresh investigations and monographs by Alfred Maury, Francis Pulszky, and J. Aitken Meigs, with additional materials by the legendary J.C. Nott and George R. Gliddon. Richly Illustrated: Contains extensive plates and figures detailing iconography, cranioscopy, and palaeontology, curated to support the authors' "fixed type" theories of human origins. Distinguished Provenance: Includes the bookplate of Albert F. Davis on the front pastedown, adding a unique layer of historical ownership to the piece. Condition & Binding: Binding: Original Blind-Stamped Cloth Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. The binding is tight, and the text remains remarkably clean. Details: As is common with volumes of this age, the spine shows light fading and minor chipping at the head and tail, with a small tear to the joint on the back hinge—honest wear that does not compromise the integrity of the Quarto (4to) format. An essential acquisition for collectors of scientific history, 19th-century Americana, or ethnographic rarities. [Store Location: 1.7]. George R. Gliddon (ilustrador).…
