Canuto (1825-91) fu un vigoroso difensore della Chiesa cattolica romana contro il liberalismo anticlericale. Come vescovo di Pasto, continuo' la difesa dei valori cattolici promuovendo l'educazione del popolo. Nel 1877 viene cacciato dalla Colombia, insieme ai vescovi di Medellin e Popayan, con l'accusa di essere un istigatore dell'opposizione politica. ITA.
