Añadir al carritoNo binding. Postcard measuring 15 x 10.5 cm (5.9 x 4.13"), rubber-stamped in black at recto and printed in black at verso. Artists' postcard by J. H. Kocman with a declarative statement about his artists' rubber stamp activities that reads, "Sorry, I make stamps never more! JHK, 1978." A charming example of Kocman's conceptual demeanor, published by Aart van Barneveld at Stempelplaats, who also issued and edited the artists' magazine 'Rubber, A Monthly Bulletin on the Use of Rubberstamps in the Arts,' in which the same rubber stamp appears in blue ink in Vol. 1 No. 10, published October 1978. Here, Kocman's stamp is accompanied by a printed note at the bottom of the page that reads, "post-scriptum: my stamp activities remain in my nostalgic memories as a time of 'breezy' creativity. in the year 1975 i have finished my rubber stamp activities with the 'last art stamp' since this time i make stamps never more. jhk, july 1978." Of course, Kocman had to have the last word, creating another rubber stamp to mark the end of his stamp-making activities. Artifact Vibration Standard Score: 8.3. Bumps to upper corners and trace amounts of handling creases. Very good. [TIOTB Catalog 6 item 7d.].

Añadir al carritoHorizontal softcover 32mo in blank brown corrugated wrappers with a purple front endpaper and a brown kraft rear endpaper. Pages rubber-stamped at rectos in blue, black, red, or green on cream-colored stock. Unpaginated [26 pp.]. Initialed and dated by the artist in black ink at front endpaper and again in red ink at one of the interior pages. Artists' book by J. H. Kocman featuring a collection of twenty-six rubber stamp activities pondering the artist's role and purpose. According to Géza Perneczky's two comprehensive anthologies on artists' stamps and assembling magazines, Kocman had the idea to ask his artist friends to mail him rubber stamps, and that the contributions he received in return would subsequently be used to create artists' books such as these. Perneczky goes on to state that Kocman only created artists' rubber stamps for approximately four years, beginning in 1970, but stopped his activities once he realized it had become a fashionable form of expression among artists. A notion punctuated by Kocman's artists' postcard that reads, "Sorry, I make stamps never more! JHK, 1978." Artifact Vibration Standard Score: 8.9. Trace amounts of age toning to covers on account of the paper quality. Near fine. Ref. Perneczky, Géza, ed.: 'A HÁLÓ: Alternatív muvészeti áramlatok a folyóirat-kiadványaik tükrében, 19681988.' Añadir al carritoBrno, J.H. Kocman, 1970, (46) leaves (incl. wrappers) with (coloured) (ink)stains, cloth spine, 14 x 20 cm. = Extremely rare and important Czech artist's book. Frontwrapper with stamped title and address and autograph manuscript in black ballpoint: "Jiri H. Kocman 8.70" and "no 28,a"; second leaf with stamped "jhk" and third leaf with stamped "j-h-kocman" and "planaxol chromatographic bkk". Jiri Valoch, J.H. Kocman - Artists' Books and papers (Galerie Rudolfinum, Prague, 1997), possibly no. 16 and illustration p.14 "Chromatographic book" (size and year are matching, pagination and title undefined). Together with Jiri Valoch and Dalibor Chatrny, J.H.Kocman counts among the leading protagonists of Czech conceptual art whose life and work are closely linked with Brno. Paradoxically, the conceptual part of Kocman's oeuvre has been displayed and published abroad more often than in the Czech Republic. (J.H. Kocman, Art activities 1970-1979 (Brno, Moravian Gallery, 2017)). Cf. Valoch (1997): In the footsteps of the 1960s Fluxus movement Kocman's artist's books became a medium allowing him to communicate his most subtle experiences, at the same time formulating a new type of artwork which reached beyond traditional categories and through its own practice formed new ones. At the beginning of the 70s, the work of some Czech artists involved in attempts to impart a new type of artistic message was comparable in quality and originality to that coming out of other countries. These artists, some of whom became part of 70s' international scene, worked outside the area of officially sanctioned art, but they communicated their message with a great deal of intensity, sometimes making the very forms of communication their theme. From 1970 Kocman's work moved strongly towards dematerialization and conceptualization, turning the artwork into a message with a strong emphasis on the communicative character of the work whose various forms the artist characteristically described as "activities". His Chromatographic books captured the process of individual injected pigments rising through capillary attraction, dactyloscopy books visualized the very process of turning the pages, preserved books demonstrated the structure of books in various sections. These works contributed to the creation of the discipline of artists' books, which at the turn of the decade appeared as possible forms of visual poetry, conceptual art and various categories of system practice. () In the context of contemporary Czech art, Kocman's work belongs among the most authentic, even though this authenticity may be hidden to some viewers underneath the mimicry of emphasis on craft and on use of skills acquired in the process of mastering it.

Añadir al carrito[Cologne]: Soft Geometry, ca. 1976-77. One of 60 sets; a portfolio of stamp impressions by the Czech artist J. H. Kocman (b. 1947). This work was distributed by Geza Perneczky (b. 1936), who has confirmed to us by email that six stamped sheets comprise a complete set. On the front of the manila envelope, there is a stamp "this art-work by j. h. kocman is dedicated to " and pencil inscription "Ted Purves" , as well as the hand-written limitation "40/60." Ted Purves (1964-2017), an artist and professor at California College of the Arts, was an avid collector of Kocman's bookworks, multiples, and stamps. The envelope reverse is signed by Perneczky and stamped "Soft Geometry," his publishing name. Each A4 sheet has a single stamp impression and is signed by Kocman in the lower right corner. They include: "all written on this page is a poem by j. h. kocman" "Whenever you see a butterfly remember JHK" "TOUCH" "ART * LOVE * LIFE" "DO YOU NEED A POEM?" "my ideas only on format 13 x 18 cm" The stamped sheets, but for the faintest sunning, are in excellent condition. Minor wear to the envelope.
