Der Autor Friedrich Kellner (1885-1970) war bereits früh ein entschiedener Gegner der Nationalsozialisten. 1933 wurde er Geschäftsstellenleiter des Amtsgerichts in Laubach (Oberhessen) und setzte dort seine offene Kritik am Regime fort. Mehrfach wurde er bedroht - nur mit Glück entging er einer beabsichtigten Einweisung in ein KZ. Nach dem Krieg war Kellner Stadtrat in Laubach. Sein Tagebuch wurde mehrfach in Ausstellungen in den USA und in Deutschland gezeigt, sein Leben in einem kanadischen Dokumentarfilm erzählt. 9783835306363 ISBN 3835306367.
