A splendid assemblage of ceramic figures and vessels from sub-Saharan Africa were exhibited in 1984 and 1985 at two West German museums. The pieces, the oldest of which date back approximately 5,000 years, were drawn from the most important public and private collections extant, but principally from European museums. This catalogue of that exhibition--probably the largest and most important exhibition ever of this material--illustrates more than 400 of these seldom exhibited or published ceramics, and contain essays (in German) by B. Fagg, D. Moto, T. Shaw, G. Smolla, and F. Willett.
