Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a comprehensive guide to the methods used in the 1860s to extract silver and gold from ores. Written amidst the burgeoning silver mining boom in California and Nevada, it reflects the specific challenges and practices of that era. The author skillfully blends practical instruction with theoretical explanations, emphasizing the importance of understanding the chemical processes involved in refining precious metals. The book is divided into two parts. Part one provides a detailed introduction to the blowpipe, a crucial tool for on-site mineral analysis. Readers are guided through the techniques and reagents needed to identify various gold and silver ores, enabling them to assess their potential yield. The author then delves into the intricacies of amalgamation, a primary method of extracting silver from ores, describing different approaches and the equipment used. Part two explores the wider world of silver metallurgy, examining processes like smelting and refining. It also includes valuable tables for calculating the value of precious metals based on their fineness. The book serves as a historical document, capturing the state of mining technology and knowledge during a pivotal period of American economic development. It offers a fascinating glimpse into the challenges and ingenuity of those engaged in the pursuit of silver and gold. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Softcover. Condición: neu. 1. Auflage.
