Plus important pour moi que la copie exacte d'une molécule dans tous ses détails est de trouver un principe directeur et de le suivre pour voir s'il donne des résultats intéressants sur le plan artistique. L'idée principale qui sous-tend toutes mes sculptures de protéines est l'analogie entre la technique des coupes en onglet et le pliage des protéines. Je me sens plus proche de la nature si j'applique sa qualité algorithmique que si je me contente de copier son apparence. Mon travail est littéralement algorithmique car je calcule mes coupes à partir de données scientifiques sur les protéines en utilisant un programme informatique que j'ai écrit. À côté de ce côté déterministe de mon travail, il y a un côté intuitif et irrationnel tout aussi fort, où mes pièces cessent de fonctionner comme des modèles scientifiques et deviennent des objets d'art pur. Mes sculptures offrent une expérience émotionnelle d'un monde qui n'est généralement accessible qu'à travers notre intellect.

Meine Arbeit ist im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes algorithmisch, denn ich berechne meine Schnitte aus wissenschaftlichen Proteindaten mit Hilfe eines von mir geschriebenen Computerprogramms. Neben dieser deterministischen Seite meiner Arbeit gibt es eine ebenso starke intuitive und irrationale Seite, bei der meine Stücke aufhören, als wissenschaftliche Modelle zu funktionieren und zu reinen Kunstobjekten werden.
