The composer of this piece, Harriet Ware, was born in Waupun, Wisconsin in 1877, she grew up to graduate from Pillsbury Conservatory of Music and went on to study in Berlin and Paris. Her composition, "Women's Triumphal March" became the official song of the General Federation of Women's Clubs and her musical setting, "The Rose is Red" (set to a poem by Daniel A. Poling) was the song of the American Mothers Association. She also started the the Musical Art Society of Long Island and ran a summer music school in Plainfield, NJ.
