The faded red cloth is good, showing wear on the spine ends with fraying at the top; gilt lettering on a black ground is clear on the upper board, somewhat dulled on the spine. Binding is strong. The interior is bright and clean except for a neat ink name and address at the front and much penciling in the last chapter only---leaving more than 1000 pages completely clear. Johnson explains in his preface that Professor Thompson assisted with the proofs for this revision, adding: "[He] put at my disposal a manuscript in which he made many alterations from the original text. I am deeply obligated to him for the opportunity presented, but also for the unlimited freedom granted to me to reorganize, rewrite and expand his manuscript.
