Añadir al carritoSOFTCOVER. Greek immigrants and their descendants constitute one of the earliest and most successful ethnic groups in Western Australia. Odysseus and the Golden West further explores their journey. The processes of migrant settlement and adjustment, the internal machinations, rivalries and operations of Western Australia's Greek communities and the contribution of Greeks to Western Australia since 1947 are examined. This research sets the experiences, achievements and adaptation of postwar Greek migrants and the Australia-born firmly within the economic, cultural and political context of the host society. 2009. First edition. An ex-library copy in near fine condition. No external markings and only minimal internal marks. Otherwise this copy presents as unread.

Vlase Zanalis was a remarkable Greek-Australian artist known for his profound exploration of Indigenous Australian culture and the Australian landscape. Born on the Greek island of Kastellorizo in 1902, he migrated to Western Australia in 19141. His work gained national acclaim with "The Birth of a Nation" in 1934, but it was his post-1948 work that truly defined his legacy. Zanalis' art often depicted the Australian outback and Indigenous themes, inspired by his visits to places like Forrest River Mission in the East Kimberley and various cattle stations in the Kimberley region. He became one of the first non-Aboriginal artists to value and portray the depth of Indigenous Australian culture1. Neville Green and John N Yiannakis have both written about Zanalis' contributions to art and culture. Neville Green is known for his work on Australian art history, while John N Yiannakis has focused on Zanalis' unique approach to Indigenous themes and his impact on the Greek-Australian community. "Rare and very Scare book". Signed by Author(s).
