Ishu found purpose after a period of seeking by establishing a shelter for needy children in a temple of the Zen Buddhist sect in September 1887. The orphanage quickly grew, fostering a Christian spirit through regular chapel services, bible study, and communal prayer. Despite facing years of poverty and crisis, Ishu never faltered in his faith, and was rewarded with donations from abroad. He expanded the orphanage's operations to include industrial ventures like rice cleaning, embroidery, and printing in order to progress towards self-sufficiency. Later, Ishu founded the Asylum Annex in 1983 to care for recently released prisoners, providing a home, work, and spiritual guidance to aid their reintegration into society. The author concludes that Ishu's story is an inspiring example of the transformative power of faith and the importance of serving others.
