Neatly presented, With the blank second leaf of the bifolium tipped in onto a large leaf of cream paper, with the engraved portrait of Kenyon (7 x 8 cm), extracted from a contemporary magazine, laid down above it, both items surrounded by a ruled border. Kenyon begins the letter: 'I have a male party to di…ne with me on Saturday next - consisting of persons whom you would I think like to meet - our genial friend Felton among them. If yourself and your Brother would join us at 7 punctual - twould make up our eight - ten - Indeed I have partly kept two places under the hope of your arrival'. According to the American National Biography, George William Curtis travelled abroad as a New York Tribune correspondent between 1846 and 1850, accompanied part of the time by his brother James Burrill Curtis. The Felton papers at Harvard include a letter from Kenyon, in which he 'discusses Felton's travel schedule in England'. He is 'more desirous' to see Curtis as he is out of town the following week.

The festival began in 1951 under Tom Walsh and a group of opera lovers who quickly generated considerable interest by programming unusual and rare works, a typical festival staging three operas. This concept has been maintained over the company's history under the direction of seven different artistic directors. From the beginning, the company embraced new and upcoming young singers, many of whom were Irish, but it also included new international names who made first appearances there. Member of the P.B.F.A. 1 p, 4to. Bifolium. Sixteen lines, neatly written. Text clear and complete. Good, on lightly-aged paper. Addressed on reverse of second leaf to 'W. Hayley Esqre.' He begins by thanking him for 'the kind memorial' (a volume of music?); the gift expresses Hayley's 'sense of common civility' and acquaints Boaden 'with a composer of… great merit'. 'I tried the effect of his divine art yesterday, Sunday, and could not but wish to hear it from the organ at Chichester'. The rest of the letter concerns 'the subject of Randolph, and the copy of his works honour'd by the hand-writing of Pope'. Boaden has 'compared the signature with various specimens at Mr. Malone's', and Hayley 'may confidently rely upon the fact'. Randolph 'bore the same christian name as his father, a circumstance, which Dr. Johnson, I think, has left sub sil[entio]:' The volume 'may add something to the expected commentary upon Milton'.
