Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book documents the consecration, dedication, and first octave of Saint Sulpice in Paris, a parish church and work of art that remains a major example of ecclesiastical architecture from the age of Enlightenment. The author provides a rich description of the building's history and…purpose, including detailed accounts of its architectural design, artistic embellishments, and ceremonial appointments. Their account of the structure's 1745 consecration, attended by the archbishop of Paris, papal legates, and a host of other dignitaries, gives the reader a vivid and textured glimpse of the grandeur of the occasion, the religious and civic authorities involved, and the enormous popular support for the event. Overall, this book is a significant contribution to the history of sacred spaces and religious practice. It sheds new light on the role of the church as a site of devotion and spectacle, and will be of particular interest to historians, architects, and religious scholars. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
