Condition is Good: an Ex-Lib copy, with card pocket & usual stamps & marking in front matter, call number to lower exterior spine. Generally quite clean, binding strong with slight cocking. Pages creamy white with moderate tanning, unmarked. Frontispiece is partially detached. Exterior shows modest rubbing to extremities, heavier at corners, with corner bumping & pushing to both ends of spine; heavier rubbing to rear board. A Very Good copy. The first book written by Egerton Ryerson Young (1840-1909), a Canadian Methodist missionary and author. Emphasis is on mission work in Canada to evangelize Indigenous people, but Young also writes about the customs and cultures of the Cree and Saulteaux (Ojibwe) tribes, local scenery in the wilderness, and his various travels in Canada. Mark Guy Pearse (1842-1930) was a Cornish Methodist preacher and author. He was very well-known in his time and wrote a number of devotional books. In 1887, the two actually met in Meaford, Ontario, where Pearse was captivated by Young's stories about his mission work and encouraged Young to write about them.
