Hardcover. Condición: G-. First Edition First Printing. Lovely collection of 3 relatively unknown fairy tales by the German author & scholar L. Bechstein, translated with a new Introduction by poet Randall Jarrell. A FIRST EDITION, first printing from 1962, this oversized hardcover is one of a series of "Marvelous Tales" issued by Macmillan in the early 1960s, each with Commentary by a famous author, & beautifully illustrated in soft watercolor designs by different artists--here, Italian Ugo Fontana. Condition is downgraded to only Good- (minus): generally quite clean, with the occasional spot or smudge. Binding secure, but paper covering to spine is completely missing at both ends, about 2"-3". The original acetate covering is torn & peeling in many places. Inside, the pages are creamy white, colors bright. Former owner's name & address inside both front & back covers, else unmarked. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive from us, never "stock" image of books we don't actually have! All orders processed before 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific time) ship that same day; weekends & holidays ship very next business day. SORRY: book is too large for expedited domestic or any international shipping without pre-approval of extra (at least double) shipping charges per USPS rates. Fontana, Ugo (ilustrador).

Hardcover. Condición: Fine in Fine dust jacket. 8vo. Jarrell died in 1965 at the age of 51, yet he created a body of work that secured his position as one of the century's leading American men of letters. Although he saw himself chiefly as a poet, publishing a number of books of poetry, he also left behind a comic novel, four children's books, numerous translations, letters and four collections of essays. Edited by Brad Leithauser. Draws from these four essay collections, reminding us that Jarell the poet was also, in the words of Robert Lowell, 'a critic of genius.'.
