"A biting (and bipartisan) guide to the men and women who, in spite of bad behavior, bad genes, or bad luck, built our great nation. In our present era of tawdry sex scandals and cheap political shots, as we cling to our sense of patriotism and our national unity soars, we long for the good old days of good old-fashioned American values; a more dignified, genteel time, when honor and decency were prized above all. Alas, a history lesson is in order. From squabbles and feuds to vicious smear campaigns and duels, A Treasure of Great American Scandals presents our mythic founding fathers and other heroes in the course of their all-too-human events. Ineffectual presidents, lazy generals, traitors, treacherous fathers, nagging mothers, ungrateful children, embarrassing siblings; and tales of insanity, death, and disturbing postmortems are all here, as are disagreeable marriages, vile habits, and, of course, sex: good sex, bad sex, and good-bad sex. We can take comfort in the fact that we are no worse and no better than our forebears. But we do have better media coverage. In these pages: A complete listing of Presidential administrations! A Brief history of the United States, including scandals! The American Hall of Shame!" - from the rear outer cover. Serra, Rosanne (cover design); de Seve, Peter (cover illustration) (ilustrador).
