Seine Mutter, genannt Lütte, wird als zweites Kind dieser Anna Maria und des Dr. Heinrich Willhelm Daehnhardt geboren. Sie lebte als Kleinkind in der Türkei und Bulgarien, als Schulkind in Brasilien, als Heranwachsende in Schweden. Sie studierte Musik in Weimar, war im Krieg in der Seekriegsleitung eingesetzt, wird mit den Eltern in Frankfurt/ Main ausgebombt, in Kaltennordheim als Krankenschwester ausgebildet und studierte schließlich in Frankfurt am Main Medizin. Sie lernt dort den Frankfurter Bub, einen gebürtigen Amerikaner, namens Adolf Ihm kennen und heiratet. Nach dem Tode ihres Mannes trifft Lütte wieder auf ihre Jugendliebe. Jedes Jahr reist sie, obwohl als Ärztin praktizierend, mit ihrer Familie in die zweite Heimat, nach Portugal. Ihre Persönlichkeit und diese regelmäßigen Kontakte mit Portugal beeinflussen den Sohn Lüttes und Autor so nachdrücklich, daß er im zarten Alter von 63 Jahren auf einem Fahrrad nach Portugal reist, streng der Reiseroute der Eltern folgend. Dabei erinnert er sich an die Lebensgeschichte seiner Mutter.So erzählt er für die Kinder,Enkelkinder und die Familie die Geschichte seiner geliebten Mutter und von seiner anhaltenden Zuneigung für dieses kleine Land im Südwesten Europas, von Portugal.
