The splendid illustrations by Joseph Pennell and Dudley Hardy were commissioned for this work, which concludes with 131 portrait plates depicting the trustees, managers, and members of the Stock Exchange's general purposes committee. Joseph Pennell (1857-1926), a friend of Whistler and Sargeant, established himself as a leading etcher of landscape and architectural prints. Dudley Hardy (1867-1922) remains known for his influence on English poster design, with his best-known being Gaiety Girl (1893).
