[iv], 290pp. Anthology of verse on war by known poets and little-known or anonymous soldiers. Includes foreword and index; third edition, enlarged and revised. Bound in quarter red cloth with red boards and black titles to spine. Book is good to very good with light foxing to page edges, light wear to boards and to spine, with some fading in a couple of places. Dust jacket unclipped and in good condition with DJ spine heavily sunned, crease to front flap and some edge wear with a number of small tears (closed) and small losses to ends of spine corresponding with faded patches on book spine.

Gold Medal Prize essay (Major Astley Terry) and Second Prize essay (Major PEF Hobbs), Army Service Corps on the subject, "The best organization for the land transport of the British Army having regard both to home defence and overseas expeditions". These essays have probably been privately bound as the title page is hand written (B71A).

3rd edition, revised and enlarged. Scarce in this condition - a well regarded anthology in its day. Not usually found in jacket VG in VG- jacket which has a few closed tears No marks or inscriptions.

The sole edition of a compilation of humorous and intriguing dubiously-legitimate anecdotes composed and published by Harry Hobbs (1864-1956), resident of British-Kolkata, pianist, and manager of Harry Hobbs and Co., 'Pianoforte Importers, Repairers and Tuners'. In the short prefatory 'explanation' Hobbs professes that his primary aim in spinning such 'yarns' is simply to make readers laugh: 'if a few men chuckle over what they find in these pages I shall be satisfied'.
