Noted as copy No. 43 in blue manuscript ink on the verso of the last leaf, along with some broad notes on the screenplay. The original drafts for "Alien" were written by O'Bannon and Shusett between 1976-1977. In early-mid 1978 Walter Hill and David Giler rewrote the script over several drafts (this being one of those), and finally in late 1978 Dan O'Bannon returned to do a complete rewrite, and ultimately received the screenwriter credit in the film.
