The book is dedicated in print to film director, actor and writer, Bryan Forbes (1926-2013). Dust jacket bound in at the rear. An attractive personalised Forbes bookplate with the B.J.F monogram and a stylised tree with pine cones and a 'Napoleonic' bee beneath. The pine cones refer to his house 'Seven Pines' at Virginia Water. Faint note on the bookplate reads, "From C". Dedicatee copy. No Binding. Condición: Good. Original Certificate of Marine Insurance, issued in Athens on 4 March 1953 for the Greek motor vessel 'KARPATHOS', Piraeus Registry No. 317. Insurance was effected with Lloyd's Underwriters through Price, Forbes & Co., Limited, London, represented in Greece by E. I. Hill & Co. The certificate records an insured amount of £7,200, against a stated total value of £9,700, covering the vessel, machinery and equipment. The document provides valuable contemporary technical and ownership information for the vessel: built in 1945, approximately 450 tons, 300 horsepower, Piraeus Registry No. 317, and recorded in 1953 as the property of Dionysios Rallis. Insurance period: 25 February to 24 May 1953. The policy includes marine risks and war risks, with navigation permitted within the Mediterranean subject to the geographical limitations stated in the certificate. The vessel can be securely identified by its Piraeus Registry number as the motor vessel KARPATHOS, No. 317, which was later recorded as having sunk off Crete in September 1960 while carrying approximately 300 tons of cement from Piraeus to Rethymno. Contemporary press reports state that the crew abandoned the vessel safely and was rescued. By 1960, the vessel was recorded under the ownership of Georgios Moundreas.
