A. Seaby Ltd. have been publishing the only priced catalogue of the coins of Great Britain and Ireland . . . Subsequent editions were enlarged and prices were regularly revised, but after the 10th (1960) edition was printed it was decided to break up the type and produce a completely new catalogue. This was done in 1962, since when we have produced a new one each year. In Part I we have endeavoured to cover each reign up to 1813 according to its numismatic range, but as limitations of space preclude the listing of every variety the first part of this catalogue is essentially a type list. In many cases we have followed the arrangement of the excellent reference work by J. J. North, English Hammered Coins, in two volumes. (Vol. I, price 80s., deals with Anglo-Saxon from c. 650 A.D. to the end of the reign of Henry III, and Vol. II, price 50s., covers the period 1272-1662. All advanced collectors of English coinage will wish to have these in their library). In Part II of this catalogue we have covered the coinage issued since 1816 and have listed all dates with their individual prices. In this edition, for the first time, we are including a series of photographs showing coins in varying degrees of preservation, and this should aid new collectors in grading the condition of their coins and establishing their approximate value. Some minor varieties are much scarcer than others, and, as the number of coins issued varies considerably from year to year, coins of certain dates and mintmarks are rarer and of more value than other pieces of similar type. The prices given for any type are for the commonest variety, mintmark or date of that type. Values given are our selling prices at the time of going to press and not the price we would pay.
