Spannende und faktenreiche Biographie, auch vor dem Hintergrund des 2015 gestarteten Films "Elser" von Oliver Hirschbiegel sehr lesenswert. "Die seit 1933 in der Arbeiterschaft von mir beobachtete Unzufriedenheit und der von mir seit Herbst 1938 vermutete unvermeidliche Krieg beschäftigten stets meine Gedankengänge. Ich stellte allein Betrachtungen an, wie man die Verhältnisse der Arbeiterschaft bessern und einen Krieg vermeiden könnte. Die von mir angestellten Betrachtungen zeitigten das Ergebnis, dass die Verhältnisse in Deutschland nur durch eine Beseitigung der augenblicklichen Führung geändert werden könnten", so Elser in den Vernehmungen durch die Gestapo. Das diese Einsicht von einem einfachen Handwerker, der keiner politischen Gruppe angehörte, vertreten wurde, verwirrte nicht nur die vernehmenden Beamten, sondern auch viele Historiker. Dankenswerterweise geht Haasis auch auf einen wenig bekannten Umstand ein: der Theologe Martin Niemöller (1892-1984, "Bekennende Kirche"), der noch zu Lebzeiten als Widerstandskämpfer verehrt wurde, stellte Elser als SS-Mann dar, der angeblich privilegierte Haftbedigungen "genoss", eine widerwärtige Diffamierung, die Niemöller später öffentlich nie widerrief. Gramm 600 überarbeitete Neuausgabe (zuerst Rowohlt Verlag, Reinbek 1999).
