Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. The provenance of this copy is fascinating. The George Eastman House is rebuilding the library of George Eastman with the exact same copies he owned. As titles are located with his bookplate they replace other copies that the local community of Rochester, NY donated to 'stand-in' for the originals. When the originals are located, these stand-ins find a new home. This book has a book plate on the inner flap indicating this was a gift to the Eastman House. This is the story of two youngsters who took the law into their own hands. They had good precedent. Their cattle-baron families had never invoked any other justice save a six-shooter, and for seventy years the Hensleys and the Kershaws had waged a bloody feud for the possession of Eden Valley. Clean text and interior. Secure binding. Slight tilt to spine. Harold Von Schmidt (ilustrador).

Cloth. Condición: Very Good+. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good-. First Edition. This 341 pp. book is a standard western of the period, well written by the prolific writer, Peter B. Kyne. The book is in very good condition. The dust jacket shows moderate wear to the spine, and has a 1" stain on the front bottom edge going into the flap. It otherwise presents quite nicely in a clear archival protector. It is unusual to still have the jacket in any condition, as most from that time, never survived. Photos upon request. Von Schmidt, Harold (ilustrador).

Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. 1st Edition. Harold von Schmidt Draws and Paints the Old West by Walt Reed; introduction By Harold McCracken; Foreword By Dean Krakel hardcover in dustjacket, folio, illustrtaed. Northland Press, 1972. Harold von Schmidt Biography Harold von Schmidt painted Western scenes so vivid and full of life that it seems he must have actually been on the spot to witness wagon trains heading west, buffalo hunts, and cowboys on the range. Born in California in 1893, Von Schmidt was too young to have experienced the old West, but he absorbed its romance from his grandfather, who had come to California in a wagon train in 1849, and claimed to be the first white man to see Yosemite Valley. Von Schmidt was raised by an aunt and uncle who fostered his interest in art and, more importantly, encouraged him to have a wide variety of experiences to enrich his imagination and craftsmanship. After studying at the California College of Arts and Crafts, he apprenticed himself to Maynard Dixon, one of the foremost California painters of the time, paying for his instruction by modeling for Dixon. Struggling to succeed as a freelance artist, he worked at a number of jobs, and eventually signed on with a company that produced advertising billboards. The state of California was threatening to ban outdoor advertising, so Von Schmidt hired some of the best West Coast artists to create beautiful billboards. "very good, some jacket wear and tear, insides clean tight and very good". Harold von Schmidt (ilustrador). Signed by Author(s).

Condición: Very Good. Pirate with treasure chest, art by Harold Von Schmidt. 9 x 11", very good. You are buying THIS PAGE ONLY- not the entire magazine. Your order will be placed carefully between stiff paper and an acetate overlay, then packed in a rigid cardboard sleeve to prevent bending. Von Schmidt began his art studies at the California School of Arts and Crafts while he was still in high school. In 1924, he entered the Grand Central School of Art in New York City. He moved to the suburban community of New Rochelle which was a well-known artist colony and home to many of the top commercial illustrators of the day such as Frank and J. C. Leyendecker and Norman Rockwell. Also in residence were Al Parker, Mead Schaeffer and Dean Cornwell, who, along with Tom Lovell and N. C. Wyeth would become leaders in the field. Schmidt's work appeared primarily in magazines like Collier's Weekly, Cosmopolitan, Liberty, The Saturday Evening Post, and Sunset. Although he preferred magazine work and illustrated few books, he spent two years preparing sixty illustrations for a deluxe edition of Willa Cather's Death Comes for the Archbishop. In 1948, he was recruited by Albert Dorne to be one of the founding faculty for the Famous Artists School. He was awarded the first gold medal by the trustees of the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in 1968. Record # 413692. Harold Von Schmidt (ilustrador).
