Original orange cloth with a black cloth spine lettered in gilt and with a black skull motif to the upper board, in the Bill Mayer illustrated dustwrapper. With black and white endpaper and prelim illustrations by Mayer. A fine copy, the binding square… and tight, the contents clean throughout and without previous owners' stamps or inscriptions. Complete with the fine original dustwrapper that is just a touch rubbed at the foot of the spine. Issued in a limitated edition of 500 copies, this example is numbered 18 and is signed by S. T. Joshi and Bill Mayer in black ink on the limitation page. A collection of the macabre short stories of the French writer Guy de Maupassant (1850-1893).
