Firm bindings and clean, bright, interior. No markings or signs of prior ownership, and very little wear. Gilt remains sharp and bright. A beautiful collectible set.

The gilt text on the spine and gilt decorations on the front board are bright and clean with spots of foxing in the hinge areas of the end sheets a result of a reaction with the glues used in binding. Volume II of the book was published by the Lakeside Press in 1946. 364 pages including an index, text and two fold-out maps which are both in excellent condition. A nice copy with no prior ownership markings of any kind.

Thomas Ford (1800-1850) was the eighth Governor of Illinois, and served in this capacity from 1842 to 1846. A Democrat, he is remembered largely for his involvement in the death of Joseph Smith, and the subsequent Illinois Mormon War. . I have repaired these tears with archival tape as well. In better than typical condition.
